My name is Erwin Castellanos and I am a 21 year old Junior at the
University of Texas at Austin. I am enrolled in a english writing course called
"Generation X" in which we have spent all semester writing on the new generation.
We are now broadening our audience and going to the web to share some of our findings
on "Generation X." This is basically a way for us to interact amongst other people
around the country and web and also to present our writing to others. My partner and
I selected the topic of MTV basically because it is an interesting one amogst most of the younger
generation. Since the begininng, MTV has turned more into a talk show than it has a music
video station and we wanted to look into this issue and find the reasoning behind this.
The station has become so much of a talk and game show the producers have proposed a new
station called MTV 2 which is scheduled to come out very soon and is to play mostly music
videos with less games. Being a member of the young Generation X in which MTV targets I
felt I was very eligible to reserch this subject. I hope you find our observations interesting
and please feel free to send comments. Enjoy.

My name is Jill Johnson. I am a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin. I am taking an English class here that is about the United State's "New Generation." So, I created this web page about Mtv because it has been a big influence on our generation. I am really into all different kinds of music, and Mtv always seems to be on in my room, so I figured I had a pretty good background on the topic. I have been an avid watcher for as long as I can remember and have taken notice to the change the station has made over the past few years. It now seems to have more "shows" than actual music videos--so much that there has been the recent creation of Mtv2. We would like to examine this trend and find out how the new generation has reacted.
